Transgender Teen Crowned Homecoming Queen

On September 14th, a transgender teen’s dream came true when she was crowned homecoming queen at Oak Park High School in Kansas City.

Landon Patterson recently transitioned to a female earlier this year after being accepted wholeheartedly by her school.

She spent most of her life identifying as a gay male but always felt incomplete, like there was something more to her.

“Going in, I didn’t know what to expect,” said Landon Patterson about the moment she had been waiting for, but never thought would come. Years ago, she hid herself, scared to reveal herself.

Landon told Fox 4 she has dreamed of walking in the homecoming court ever since her freshman year. At this moment is when Landon felt complete and fully whole.

“It was so overwhelming for me because she deserves that, she deserves nothing but the best in life because she gives nothing but the best to the people that she comes across,” said Landon’s friend Kimmy Crane-Allen.

“To have my students and my friends vote for me just really makes me feel welcomed and loved for who I am, right now I feel complete. I feel like a princess.”

She is an incredible role model who has broken barriers, a moment years in the making. She hopes to inspire many teens like her, and she says, “Be you! Life is too short and you’ve got to embrace who you are,” which is something we all should live by
