Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Why You Should Care

Lately, I have been asking friends, teachers, classmates, strangers, and anyone that I encounter, about their feelings and opinions toward what is happening right now. Most of these conversations start with: What do you think about the situation at this moment? What about Trump’s executive orders? How does this make you feel? What do you think?

As I listen carefully, some tell me their honest opinion. Others reply with an “I don’t know,” “I don’t really care,” “It’s not my place,” “As long as it doesn’t affect me,” and the wonderful (sarcasm), “I’m not into politics.”

While families are fleeing their country in search for shelter, people have the luxury to be unsure or be unbothered by the crisis around them. Other times, I find it disturbing when people decide to not care for various reasons. Perhaps their friends don’t care, or they don’t want others to think of them as liberals. Caring about Human Rights is most than just a label.

Respecting and fighting for equal rights is not a matter of opinion, but rather part of being a decent human being.

You should care about families being torn apart by a wall, that in all honestly will not stop people with the necessity of a better life from risking it all. You should have an opinion because you just might be the one to make a change.

So go ahead and fight. Fight for what is just and fair. Fight for the ones who can’t. Fight for the parents who are too scared to risk their status in this country. Read. Gain as much information possible. Get informed about news around the world and near your home. Because in reality, just because is not happening here does not mean is not happening at all. These are some of the problems taking place at this moment:

The Muslim Ban.

The construction of the wall.

SYRIAN REFUGEES.

People fleeing destroyed homes and leaving family behind are hoping for a helping hand. You have the power to be that helping hand. To those who don’t know how to help, spread the word. Informing friends and families help, as well.

Protest. Do not turn your back on the people that need your help the most. Get involved with the movement. This is history. You can be part of it. Fight for what is right.

Do not let indifference take over. Care deeply about others.

This is your time to make a difference in someone else’s life. Do not just stand and watch as thousands suffer. Every voice counts.
