In May, 2016, Amber Heard came out with allegations saying that she suffer domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Johnny Depp. Both of them agreed to settle their divorce out of court on Tuesday 16th of August, and on Thursday 18th of August, she had released an official statement saying that she would receive a massive $7 million in divorce settlement money…and get this – she will be donating it all to charity.
In an official statement she said, “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” also adding, “Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most.”
Amber, 30, and Johnny, 53, met each other on the set of 2011 film, The Rum Diary, and married in February 2015. Their marriage officially ended this week after 15 months and they released a statement together explaining what had happened.
“Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm,” they both said in the statement they released together.
Their divorce proceeding was bitter because Heard’s team was accusing Depp of being abusive, this lead the trial to drag on over a period of time, causing upset for both parties. Heard’s defense claimed on one occasion, Johnny was drunk and high on ecstasy, severed his finger and started writing on the wall in his own blood, however Depp still denies the allegations against him
Amber is donating her money to two separate charities, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), for use in the prevention of domestic violence, and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, dividing the money up separately between the two.
