Studyblr is an online community on Tumblr with hundreds of students sharing study tips, notes, and advice. These hard-workers have created a tight-knit community of support and tips for those going through the same struggles that they are. These students motivate and support each other through all of their struggles from finals to college rejections. With students ranging in ages from freshmen in high school to grad school students, the wealth of information contained within this community is impressive.

This community is definitely one to visit when you are in need of some support while going through your education.

However, with all good things, there are some downfalls. Many argue that the emphasis placed on ‘aesthetically pleasing’ pictures creates a feeling of elitism and a distraction from learning. With the more popular blogs sharing pictures of expensive technology, hundreds of writing utensils, and name-brand universities, many members who can not afford these luxuries feel left out. Furthermore, this obsession with posting beautiful photos, the focus of this community can feel as though it is shifting from learning and improvement of one’s self to just posting pretty pictures.

Some also claim that the facade of perfection, whether in just aesthetics or grades, is unrealistic and it makes the community feel exclusive. People are turned off by the fact that the most popular bloggers have stellar test scores and grades, and they feel too inadequate to participate in this community for fear of being looked down upon.

Despite these downfalls, this community’s members have explicitly stated, many times, that they want to be inclusive and allow anyone to enjoy the wealth of resources and share their experiences. Enjoying your education is not exclusive to those at the top.

Enjoying your education is not exclusive to those at the top.

So, a source of motivation or an added stress? That’s up to you to decide.
