Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Having Siblings Means Having A Life Long Friend

I think we can all agree that having siblings is one of the most challenging, difficult and annoying things that a person can deal with, but at the same time, it’s a blessing. Almost every day I want to strangle my brother for shooting me in the forehead with a Nerf gun. Or I go off on my sister for borrowing my favorite sweater, without asking, and spilling something on it. Even though every single day they find a new way to annoy me, I have no idea where I would be without them.

My whole life I’ve been very close with my family. My mother, father, brother and sister are all my best friends. They know everything about me and I tell them everything. Other people may not have the same relationship with their family that I do, and that’s understandable, but most people with siblings, or a family as close as mine is, can agree with me:

having a brother or sister means that you have a life-long friend who will always be there to support you, no matter how often you fight.

I consider my siblings to be one of the best things to ever happen to me because they help me in so many ways. My brother is always there to make me laugh when I’m in a bad mood. It’s like he can sense when I’ve had a bad day because he’s always sits next to me and starts cracking jokes. I have about a million inside jokes with my brother and sister that never fail to make me laugh so hard I snort. Did you know that research also shows that people with siblings have a higher sense of morale? Bonding with your siblings can actually make you a better person.

Having siblings is also a good thing for your mental health. I suffer from anxiety. I have my good days, I have bad days, then I have my really bad days. When I have my really bad days, all I want to do is go home and lock myself in my room, but being alone is when I have those days is bad for me, so I have a therapy session with my sister, and that never fails to make me feel better. There was actually a study of 400 family’s that showed, regardless of age distance, having a sister protected adolescents against feeling lonely, unloved, guilty, self-conscious and fearful. So, yes, sometimes siblings are extremely annoying and you may think about all the ways you can get rid of them, but all the other times, they’re actually really great!
