Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Why Feelings are Fleeting

It’s always been difficult to differentiate between what’s temporary in my life and what’s permanent. It leaves me overwhelmed with the decision of what I should keep in my life and what I should let go of. When I truly thought about it however, I realized that it was my feelings that I was unable to sort out- not my situations or the people around me. The feelings that took over when hardships came my way were what was really affecting me in the long run.

When feelings seem to take over my entire mind, it seems as if there’s no rational solution to whatever I’m facing because I can’t even decide what the right thing to do is. I’ve been in so many situations where I had absolutely no idea regarding what to do about it or how to react towards it. Because of this I began to develop feelings of fear, sadness, regret and anger. What I realized over time is this: When a feeling overtakes you- whether it be good or bad- and if you have absolutely no idea what to do, let it go. Dwelling on a temporary feeling could ruin some of the greatest friendships or moments in your life, and it isn’t worth the sacrifice.

Nothing bad ever came from letting go of something for the sake of growing from it. When you come to a point where you realize what you are feeling is not a permanent part of your life, you’re able to experience so much more freedom. I believe that if a feeling comes and you know exactly how to react to it, you were meant to hold onto that and make it a part of you. But those feelings of negativity that seem to control your every move were never meant to remain a part of you or your life. They drag you down and keep you from who you really are.

People often get preoccupied with worrying about an overwhelming feeling they have, without realizing the power they have within themselves to switch off that feeling and learn from it. We all need to reach a point in our lives where we are able to have full control over what we feel and what we allow to affect us overall as a person. Feelings always come and go, but it is completely up to as to decide what we do with them.
