Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Finding Your Own Way to Pray

You don’t have to be religious or believe in a specific entity or ‘version’ of a God/godly force in order to pray. You don’t have to be or do anything specific in order to pray, you just have to take a moment to think, say or write “a solemn request or expression of thanks to a deity or other object of worship.” There’s no right or wrong way to pray, you just have to do what works for you. It helps to look at others prayers or ask how others fit prayer into their routine, so that you can create your own way.

When you pray, pray for not only the things you wish for, but also the things you are grateful for. When you’re grateful, think good and put good into the world. Getting close to God or something besides yourself connects you deeper and better with yourself. Ask for blessings for yourself but for others as well. Pray for whoever you love and everyone/anyone that may need it. Love yourself, others and God.

Your prayers will be answered, but you can’t say when or how. It may not be the exact thing you wished for or when you want it, because sometimes we’re not ready for the things we want. When you pray, speak things into existence but don’t over-do it, overthink it or stress it. You just want to leave it up to God/the Universe and whatever is meant to be will be.

I don’t have much experience with religion, but being with others who believe in the same thing you do will help with trusting in a God and praying. If you don’t know if religion is for you, try one or a few out by going to a church, mosque, etc. You can’t really knock it until you try it. If nothing fits, then you can find a way for your own. Praying will get easier and become a more natural habit with time. If you can’t find something, it will still be okay — regardless, God would never want you stop growing and wanting better for yourself or others.
