At only 17 Melanie auditioned for the Voice getting the attention of every judge except Christina Aguilera and ending up on Adam Levine’s team. She did not win the voice but making it to the Top Six before being eliminated. Melanie continued doing music and with her unique voice that has a smoky tone to it she released an ep and a music video that gained attention because of the theme. Her theme since she has started writing and singing independently has been the idea behind being young all over again. So she would wear toddler inspired outfits, her album is called CryBaby, and even her stage decorations include things like cribs, soothers, teddy bears etc. The reason why she decided to go with this approach was that as a child she was constantly made fun of for being a very emotional person and that stuck with her throughout her whole childhood. So this a way of saying I don’t care and she is embracing being a “cry baby”. Most people find her sense of style or music strange because they feel like she is fetishizing babies but not that is not the case. Melanie Martinez is continuing to share her childhood through her music and not caring at all what anyone says about it .

This band strives to be seen more than just a bunch of girls making music but to change the way we view female musicians. Showing girls can be musicians and be just as successful without men. Since where they are all from its still seen as not okay for girls to make music or are not taken seriously. They do not care if you do not like them or not they just love making music and sharing it with the world
