Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Is Education The Only Way?

Optimism is defined as having hope for a successful outcome or future. Every human possesses this trait in order to strive for greater things whether that be big or little goals in our lives. If you’ve agreed with me up until this point, would you agree that the same rule applies to our pathway of education?

It seems like, nowadays, we, as teens, are shamed by adults if we don’t go to college. We’re told that we will be failures if we don’t follow society’s plan that tells us how to excel in our own lives.

Society has built this image that we must have a piece of fancy paper with our names engraved in ink to classify what our labels will be for the rest of our lives.

Personally, I applaud anyone who is able to make that decision that follows them forever. I’m sure the tuition money was worth it (note my sarcasm by the way.) I could never be satisfied with one job title for the rest of my life. I could never sit in an office job, working a nine to five shift every day. I’d get too bored too easily. So why should I have to choose a major to prove my worth in this world and limit my freedom to live my life? Is the tuition, books, dorms, loans, the risk of debt really worth it?

So what if we don’t follow our parents’ hopes and dreams for us. It doesn’t mean we’ll become nobodies. As long as we’re able to carry that trait of optimism within us, we can strive to become who we want to be without depending on an education. Regardless of how we get there, is only going to make up a good life story to tell later where we can say to truly, freely lived our lives.
