The talented Viola Davis is set to receive her Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 5th, 2017. This is just another accomplishment added to the long list of incredible things she has done through out the years. Her star is not just another win for her, but for people of color as well. The lack of people of color in Hollywood is significant to the amount of white celebrities. This is huge news in Hollywood considering the BAFTAs announced they will now require diversity for eligibility.
Viola Davis’ star is an inspiration to people of color for constantly breaking the barriers set up against them by Hollywood and creating diversity.
Viola Davis made a major mark in 2015 when she became the first African American woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama and delivered an incredible and inspiring speech. This star adds her to list of stars that have done some outstanding work and some that truly deserve to be recognized for their talent. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Leron Gubler and fellow actress Meryl Streep are set to speak for her Walk of Fame inauguration. Major congrats to Viola Davis and her incredible accomplishments and hope that 2017 brings many more amazing projects for her.
