This group of problematic faves have been popularized by social media. Even though they have been known to say ignorant things about a certain group of people, they are still supported and promoted throughout the entertainment industry. With this list, hopefully people will leave these social media “icons” and entertainers in 2016.
- Kodak Black
Kodak Black is a well-known rapper with hits like “No Flockin” and “Skrt”. In August, footage of Kodak Black saying misogynistic lyrics in a video surfaced. In this video he says, “Where them yellow bones, I don’t want no black b*tch. I’m already black, don’t need no black b*tch.” After being released from jail, he is facing charges of sexual battery. This rapper is beyond problematic, as he hasn’t apologized for any of the lyrics said in his songs.
- Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner, the queen of cultural appropriation, began famous by social media and the fact that she was the half-sister of the Kardashians. After the popularization of her makeup line, she also became more popular. People refuse to acknowledge the fact that she has used the features of black women and the hairstyles of black culture to make them seem “trendy” and “edgy”. She has also created an unhealthy image of how all women’s bodies should look.
- Jeffree Star
A video surfaced of beauty guru Jeffree Star shouting terrible slurs to strangers. The video has since been removed, but this article contains the disgusting slurs Jeffree shouted. Although Jeffree Star has admitted to saying these things, his fans still support him. The reasoning is that he has faced homophobia, but that doesn’t excuse his nasty slurs.
- Kanye West
Lastly, Kanye West has done so many things that have made the news, but this one is definitely problematic. He has been seeing wearing the Confederate flag wrapped around his body, and he has also put it on his Yeezy tour bomber jacket. This could be expected though because a few months ago, he had stated that he supported Donald Trump. People still support him in ignorance, even though the confederate flag has a racist history.
