Language is a barrier when it comes to communicating; you cannot communicate with someone who doesn’t, at least, understand your language. That being said, don’t let language be your limit for what you watch or listen to as far as the media and entertainment industry goes.
There are a LOT of incredible shows and music and movies in completely different languages from your own. YouTubers as well who may speak a different language from your own. This is no reason not to be able to still enjoy their content. I’m not saying,”Go and learn every single language known to mankind and then make your own,” unless you really want to, in which case don’t let me stop you. This is more of a friendly reminder of the existence of subtitles. A glorious thing they are. People who know two or more languages that will translate what is being said and/or sung into whatever other language they may know.
I know all of this seems like common sense to some, but not everyone is fully aware of the entertainment industry outside of their own country. That is not a bad thing, but if you would prefer to expand your “No Death Is Sadder Than a Dog’s Death” movie collection, or your “Don’t Touch Me I’m Emotional” playlist on SoundCloud, then here are a few websites that may help you out a bit. (Side Note: Some may require additional payment in order to be able to watch all of the content they have to offer. You may still watch them, they will just include subtitles and a lower quality. If you have no money, trust me, there are still options for you.)
- Viki.com ($$$) – Viki is a TV site with shows from all over the world. Their subtitles are actually provided by the fans, so if you happen to know multiple languages and find a show you like with no subtitles, you can contribute and share your new favorite show with others who may not know the language. Also, the titles for the people who subtitle the show are HILARIOUS! Mostly, they are just witty puns relating to the show. (Side Note : They are hiring.)
- DramaFever.com ($$$) – DramaFever is similar to Viki, but it has a more professional feel to it. The subtitles are done by the staff, and I don’t recall witty puns. However, they do offer over 13,000 episode from 12 countries across the world, so you’ll never run out of things to watch. (Side Note: They offer an affiliate program, if you’re interested.)
- Radiooooo.com (Yes, with that exact amount of O’s.) – Radiooooo is an up and coming musical website designed to help you find music from a country of your choice, from a time of your choice (that begins at the 1900s).
- Mdundo.com ($$$) – Mdundo is a music streaming website dedicated to making music accessible to everyone in Africa. It offers access to Africa’s greatest hits and is one of Africa’s biggest music catalog.
