The Trump administration has officially taken over the White House. If you’re anything like me, clicking that unfollow button on the White House Instagram page was heartbreaking (Oh, cute Bo and Sunny pictures, how I’ll miss you). After parting ways with the Obamas, the White House simply doesn’t feel as welcoming. But fear not, for while Trump may have ruined our real White House, there are plenty of fictional ones we can follow for the next four years.
- The Bartlet White House – The West Wing
The West Wing presented us with an electric, talkative and quintessentially Sorkin-esque White House. President Bartlet, at the helm, was a caring, nerdy, and steadfast Democrat (all qualities our current President is missing). If you’ve ever feeling particularly down about Trump’s lumbering speeches or dead beetle eyes, turn on an episode of The West Wing, and you’ll quickly find yourself lost in the witty dialogue and unique characters.
2. The Meyers White House – Veep
Veep is a hilarious take on the day-to-day life of Selina Meyers, V.P. to a President who often seems completely ignorant to her existence. The show is scathing, foul and hilarious, and despite her tendency to completely break down every so often, Meyers is a dream compared to our current V.P. Also, just watching Meyers or any of her staffers go on “Fuck”-filled rant has, in this stressful time, become strangely cathartic.
3. The Underwood White House – House of Cards
Kevin Spacey stars in this Netflix original drama that follows Frank Underwood on his rise to power in the U.S. Government. The series examines the darker parts of Washington, and how power corrupts politicians. Full of dramatic music, darkly lit corridors and shady journalistic principles, House of Cards may paint a grim portrait of our government, but truthfully, can anything scare us now?
4. The Grant White House – Scandal
If Olivia Pope was real, I bet this whole mess could’ve been avoided. Scandal, with all its twists, turns and general drama can be the perfect distraction from our current political situation. The show is also known for tackling more serious issues, such as abortion, in a far more respectful way than most Republicans will for the next four years.
5. The Knope White House (Sort Of) – Parks and Recreation
Now, hear me out. This show might not take place in the White House, but Leslie Knope provides exactly the kind of Government-orientated optimism we need at a time like this. Knope is a lovable, devoted public servant. She cares for others, works her butt off and never gives up; making her the perfect role model for us during this difficult time. If she proved anything to us, it’s that the world can be made better, one act at a time. Like Leslie Knope said, at a time like this, its important for each of us to find our team and get to work.
