Joey Alexander is an Indonesian Jazz pianist and child prodigy. At the age of 11, he released his first album, My Favorite Things.
Last year his debut album, “My Favorite Things,” garnered two Grammy nominations for “Best Jazz Instrumental Album” and “Best Jazz Improvised Solo” at the age of 12, making him the youngest jazz artist to be nominated for a Grammy, according to his record label, Motema Music.
Besides being a nominee, Alexander also performed with his trio at the pre-telecast ceremony and played solo on the Grammy Awards broadcast. Sadly, he didn’t take home a Grammy last year but he got another Grammy nomination this year for “Best Improvised Jazz Solo”.
Once again, he didn’t take home a trophy. Several online media in Indonesia started making negative headlines because he failed to win a trophy.
But they forgot. To be recognized by the academy is a remarkable achievement. Although he did not win, it still an honor to be nominated.
Some media seem to need to learn to appreciate. win or not does not matter. the important thing is he already prove that age is not an obstacle to do things that we passionate about.
