By now, you’re probably asking yourself what more could Olivia Pope do that the average person cannot? To be quite frank, there’s an ample amount of things she can do that many of us could only dream of doing. For example, who do you know can save a politicians entire career based solely off of one phone call all the while sporting a fresh manicure? No one to be exact.
I’m sure you’re thinking ‘she’s not real so of course she can do those things’, but what about some of her more typical heroic deeds that we ourselves do on a daily basis. When we find ourselves in a rut, what’s the first thing we tend to do? For me personally, I like to ask myself “WWOPD”, which means What Would Olivia Pope Do?
When faced with difficult task such as handling large loads of homework or working under a designated time slot, I tend to ask myself that question all the time. Instead of letting the things I need to do consume me, I envision myself remaining calm and overcoming all the obstacles in my path. I like to tell myself that nothing is too big that it can’t be handled.
In addition, WWOPD is also a significant reminder that you need to stunt even when everyone else is barely making it. Just because everyone else is not living to their full potential doesn’t mean that you need to do the same. Life under no circumstance is here to please any of us. So wake up each day and sashay past anyone or anything that tries to being you down.
Furthermore, if Olivia Pope has taught any of us anything it’s that when life gives you lemons you need to make cranberry juice. If there’s a will there’s a way. So often we get caught up in this idea that things have to be a certain way and I’m here to tell you that’s not the case. If you feel as though something is wrong, don’t ever feel the need to not speak up and make a change regarding the situation. You are the controller of your destiny and never let a man or a woman try and dictate your abilities.
Last but not least on this list of WWOPD, turn your failures into success stories. There have been countless times where Olivia has had to change the way things have played out and in the end she always comes out on top. If there’s one thing we can learn from her is that we should never be afraid of taking risk. When we see something we want or know something isn’t right and deserves our attention, it is up to us to be vocal. Although Olivia Pope is just a fictional character, we are not. As the future generation of lawyers and activists it is up to us to do what she has done for so many of her fictional clients. We have to be the change we wish to see in the world!
