Even though Nick’s season of the Bachelor is still airing, many people are already confident in who he will end up choosing. In fact, many were confident before the season even premiered. Reality Steve is the one and only accurate source of spoilers to the Bachelor franchise. For years, he has correctly stated not only which contestant will receive the final rose, but also what happens in each episode before it is aired.
Steve was nice enough to answer my questions and give great insight into what he does.
How long have you been doing Bachelor/Bachelorette recaps and spoilers and how did you get started? Recaps started with Trista’s season and I’ve been doing them for every season since. So 31 of the 33 seasons. Spoilers didn’t start til Jason Mesnick’s season in 2009, and I’ve been spoiling ever since.
You appear to be the one and only source that provides accurate spoilers to the shows. Why do you think that is? It’s good question, and one I don’t really have a clear answer to. I think because the site has built up a track record for being accurate, and the only place on the internet to get your Bachelor spoilers, people just like to tell me stuff. They know I don’t out my sources, so they feel safe. I’ve built up quite the rolodex of sources over the years, I keep my word, and I think people respect that.
Your reliable sources are kept top secret, but they must know that you use their information to spoil the bachelor. Why do they tell you? I think a lot of people like to feel like they’re a part of the show. I’ve always said I’m only as good as the information I’m given. I’m not seeing this stuff first hand, so obviously it’s only as good as who’s giving it to me. But seeing how many accurate spoilers there have been over the years, I think it says a lot to the sources and how good they are. I appreciate every single one of them.
What is your process in retrieving the spoilers and deciding when to release them? It varies from season to season and spoiler to spoiler. There is no black and white answer to that. Every spoiler is treated differently depending on where I get it from, when I got it, what the information entails, etc. There really isn’t a universal answer. If there was, it’d be pretty easy for anyone to do this. But that hasn’t happened in 8 years.
What was the easiest season of the bachelor franchise to spoil and why? Juan Pablo’s came pretty easy to me. Obviously for reasons I can’t get into, but that one I had great sources and things just fell into place.
What was the most difficult season of the bachelor franchise to spoil and why? I’ll go with Desiree’s. I’ve been wrong about an ending before, but that one I was wrong about the elimination order from final 3 on AND got the ending wrong. That one was rough. I think I know what happened. I got lazy. I wasn’t as thorough as I should’ve been with following up and what not and it bit me in the ass.
What has been your favorite season to watch and why? I guess Brad’s first season, because it was the most realistic. He got to the end, decided he couldn’t marry either one, and dumped both of them. Seems reasonable to me, but at the time, he was the most hated man in America. Never made sense to me.
How has your website evolved over time? I’d say with the popularity of social media, it’s helped in a tremendous way when spoiling certain aspects of the show. Plenty of people can see filming, tweet or IG about it, then all you have to do is a search to find it. But to me, although they are “spoilers” per se, that’s not what my site is. If someone tweets something from filming, I’ll always give them credit and retweet it. That’s social media spoiling. What sets my site apart from everyone else, is I give all the spoilers that aren’t on social media. It’s one big puzzle piece that I put together, and by the end of the season, the goal is to have every piece fit.
How long do you plan to continue doing recaps and spoilers and what are your plans for the future? As long as the show is on the air barring anything crazy happening.
Do you have any predictions for the next season, bachelor in paradise season 4, or the direction of the franchise as a whole? I think this show can go on forever. It makes gobs of money for the network, it’s cheap to produce, almost everything is done on trade, and it kills with women 18-54, which is an advertiser’s dream. They’ll stop when they just feel like they’ve had a good run, not because ABC cancels them. They’ve been on the air 15 years, and Rachel’s season will be the 34th Bachelor/ette season, along with 3 Bachelor Pads, and this summer will be the 4th BIP. This franchise isn’t going anywhere anytime soon from what I can see.
