Winter break is the time of year for students to relax and enjoy the holidays without worry of school and all the stresses that come along with it. One week in addition to the few days added to break will immensely help students to regenerate and take advantage of the time given away from school. However, winter break is shorter than it usually is this year in comparison to past years. For students in college and still in grades K-12, this could seem reasonably unfair for many beliefs.
With Christmas less than a week away and winter break around the corner, students all over America are stressing to cram in final work due for classes before returning back to school in January. Although the starting and ending dates for winter break varies from school to school, break this year has been cut shorter all around the United States. For students who spend break studying for finals or spending time with relatives and friends, a shorter break will negatively impact them. For all students, less time is given away from school to relax and enjoy days off from education. Other individuals take advantage of break to pull more shifts at his/her job that aren’t possible to work, due to classes. The ability to travel, visit family, study longer for finals and loss of work hours are significant disadvantages of a shorter break.
However, some consider a winter break cut shorter to be an advantage. Teachers believe in the repetitive learning principle that helps students to remeber certain material learned in school over a period of time, in a duration of intervals. This will help students remeber material that could be forgotten during a longer winter break.
Short vacations, working less shifts and a decrease in the amount of time being able to spend with family, are all valuable points to consider extending winter break for. However, an education with minor breaks is efficient in the long run and beneficial for students in all grade schools and collages. Time to relax and regenerate are possible for students with shortened winter breaks, despite some advantages that are relevant to having a longer break.
