If you’re not already in love with Sia, you’re missing out on her poetic songwriting and unique voice that simply touch hearts, her cute and lovable presence in interviews, and her overwhelming support of minorities. I mean come on, what else could Sia do to make us love her even more?
Well here’s just a few things you may or may not have known about Sia that’ll make you crazy about her.
She co-wrote Lea Michele’s song, “If You Say So.”
This song was quite the tear-jerker for many at the time and even to this day. This song was a tribute to Lea’s boyfriend and fellow Glee co-star Cory Monteith who tragically passed on July 13, 2013. Sia met with Lea in August of that same year and they discussed how Lea wanted to write a personal song about Cory. Sia agreed to help and believed that they sort of clicked during their meeting, “Maybe it was because I have a dead boyfriend too,” said Sia.
Plus, she wrote with some of your favorites!
We all know Sia for her impeccable songwriting, and some of the biggest names in the music industry know that firsthand. She wrote “Diamonds” by Rihanna, “Pretty Hurts” by Beyoncé, “Perfume” by Britney Spears, “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)” by Ne-Yo, and the list just goes on and on.
Sia’s recent song is a tribute to the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida.
In September of 2016, Sia released her music video to her single “The Greatest.” From Maddie Ziegler wiping her cheeks with paint and the lively appearance of a rainbow to the haunting visual of bodies lying on the floor, Sia really captured the emotions everyone was feeling.
Before Sia’s big break she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. During this time she became unhealthily dependent on pills such as Xanax and OxyCotin and eventually became addicted to them. Sia’s alcoholism came with her fear and nervousness of singing in the spotlight—she would drink before her performances to try and get rid of those butterflies in her stomach. With the drug addiction, alcoholism, and the unfortunate death of her boyfriend all consuming her life, she fell into a deep depression and felt like the only way to end all of her pain was to end her life. She decided to just check into a hotel and end it all there, however she received a call from a dear friend who managed to stop her. Sia entered a recovery program and overcame her burdens. If her music and personality aren’t enough to inspire you, her story should be.
